Three wall murals by a trio of artists from the 2018 13 Artist Awardees (TAA) of the Cultural Middle of the Philippines (CCP) have been reinterpreted into musical compositions by promising college students in a venture entitled ART + MUSIC by CCA.
Headlined by the Music Manufacturing college students of De La Salle-Faculty of Saint Benilde, the venture aimed to encapsulate the feelings caused by the artworks across the faculty’s College of Design and Arts campus.
“Bakwit” by road artist Archie Oclos, a 70-meter mural which depicts the plight and hardships of the Lumad college students who have been compelled to depart their faculties and communities on account of militarization, has been changed into music by Ben Ayes, who creates three themes that replicate the provincial life, the tragedies of oppression, and the hope to relate these struggles.
“Hindi Totoo” by multimedia artist Rasel Trinidad, also referred to as Doktor Karayom, which explores peculiar characters, Filipino mythological creatures, and the topics of horror, has been given a darkish melody by Dwight Ian Perez, who makes use of the kulintang, conga, and piano for percussion, violin, cello and bass guitar for string, and flute and bassoon for woodwind.
